On a bit of a tyre experiment recently as my Maxxis Minions have had enough and have some Specialized Butcher/Purgatory to try but wondered if anyone has good experiences withe the Continental der baron 29er tyre?Reviews seem favourable and I remember being interested in them but some older Continentals were about the worst tyres i have ever ridden so wanting to see if there’s any feedback on these!Run a 26 version and it’s dam good on pretty much everything apart from thick dusty trails.
I’m still loving them. Here’s the tire’s basic beta. Guess we’ll see.Disappointing as theres tonnes of life left in the tread. It’s getting damper and some parts are pretty sloppy now after a week of rain.

Photo courtesy of Art’s CycleryWhen I was still running 26″ tires, I loved Continental’s Trail King tires not only for their uncanny ability to hold onto dramatically varied terrain, but also for their massive 2.4″ super high-volume casing. Think an Airshot might be useful too…I’m right through the rubber and into the treads on the bead seat. My first 4 rides on the Der Baron were in wet loamy conditions in Derby and slick muddy conditions in Maydena. On the rear the less than confidence inspiring transition wouldn’t be such an issue but the braking grip vs not very fast rolling would still annoy me.I still think Continental’s best black chilli compounds beat everyone else’s, especially once you include wear rate. Their protection carcases are slightly better, but still not perfect.Assuming the Mountain King comes up like the Trail King / Rubber Queen / whatever it isIt doesn’t, it’s much smaller. Color: Black. Any good as a front?Greyspoke – I’ve not formally measures it but it looks tall. Though the Continental Der Baron Projekt wasn’t my favorite tire to date for dry, skatey, rocky terrain, this tire would almost surely shine in wet and/or loamy terrain. By sandwiching four, 240 tpi layers under the tread and three 180 tpi layers under the sidewall, the tires are designed to stand up to anything you can throw at them. Good sidewalls so feel happy to run them low PSI and they have shed loads of traction. Latest Podcast Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Spotify Android Ist einigermaßen dicht. Tubeless Montage relativ einfach auf Race Face Arc35 mm Felge. Supportive sidewall and long lasting compound considering how soft/grippy it is.

Dropped a couple of PSI.I’m impressed – though they were replacing the stock Onza Ibex that came on the Jeffsy (they are rubbish, in my opinion. Though the casing didn’t rip or tear during the test, it did collapse enough to “pang” my ENVE M60 HV wheels against rocks on several occasions.
