Kathryn Kirkpatrick Reads Her Poetry Poet Catherine Carter Dr. Catherine Carter works in English education, poetry, and American literature, and is the author of the poetry collections Larvae of the Nearest Stars, Marks of the Witch, The Swamp Monster at Home , and The Memory of Gills. Shaun Evans charms audiences with his portrayal of the cerebral Detective Constable Morse.

With eloquence and intelligence, Kirkpatrick has handcrafted a collage of words and phrases actually spoken by the friends and relations of the magnificent and mysterious Maud Gonne, muse of W. B. Yeats. Our Held Animal Breath by Kathryn Kirkpatrick is a slim volume of poetry that is broken into three sections. “Kathryn Kirkpatrick is a poet of such thoroughgoing honesty that reading some of these poems feels like eavesdropping, they are that closely focused on the details of experience.

As a breast cancer survivor, I'm a big advocate of local, organic food --if I'm not planning, planting, weeding, or harvesting our garden, I'm learning new ways to prepare slow food. Kathryn Kirkpatrick is the author of three full-length collections of poetry: The Body's Horizon(1996), Beyond Reason(2004), and Out of the Garden(2007); two chapbooks: Looking for Ceilidh and The Master's Wife.Her poems appear in many journals, including Another Chicago Magazine, The Florida Review, Shenandoah, and Sycamore Review.

I'm convinced that in this historical era one of the greatest powers we have as individuals is the power to consume sustainably by boycotting polluting, unethical companies and spending on organic, Fair Trade products.

Whether waking up from surgery for breast cancer or describing the massage therapist kneading the scar on her chest, Kirkpatrick does not prettify the moment.
